Or Why I Donated to the AIBR
By David Osborne

Millions of people over the years have donated their hard earned money to many different causes. Some people donate to religious groups, some to charities, some to research organizations and the list goes on and on. I am by nature a frugal person and not generally given to spending whims. However, as the years have gone by, my wife and I have seen our salaries go up which is great, but we have seen each new tax bracket take a bigger bite out of our overall cash flow each year. We have sought out professional help on the matter and our tax lady and our financial advisor have both shared with us the various ways we can drop our taxable income each year.

As anyone knows who has tried to save some of their hard earned cash from going into Uncle Sam's pocket, every little pre-tax retirement plan, clothing donation or work deduction helps. But eventually you hit that ceiling where your minor deductions don't help anymore. Where you can get the biggest bang for your buck is cash donations to non profit organizations. Tax wise, this is your best chance to keep some of your money, help some cause you believe in and keep Uncle Sam off your back.

Over the years I have donated money to my church, coastline/environmental organizations and I also gave money in 2007 to the non-profit kicking camp that has helped my son excel in football this season. However this year, I chose to send the bulk of my non-profit contributions to the Alliance of Independent Bigfoot Researchers (AIBR). As far as I was concerned, donating money to the AIBR was a “no brainer” for me. There were many reasons for this decision.

I was impressed that the AIBR went to the trouble to become non-profit. Going this route takes a little thinking and a little time. Since I know the people that are behind the AIBR, I feel comfortable that they will be around for a while. There is also a solid level headed leadership base that controls the ship and for that reason I don't mind being part of the crew. Now that I have been around the bigfoot world for awhile, I am somewhat aware of the various bigfoot/sasquatch organizations that exist. A decent amount of these groups are legitimate, some are a person's fantasy and a few are out to make a profit off of other's curiosity, fantasy, or gullibility.

After my son and I were invited to the AIBR's Operation Odyssey last summer, I recognized something special was being attempted by this group. People were really trying to educate others in field research and techniques. There was organization, teamwork and compassion and it really showed all through the weekend's activities. No one was charged for attending and only donations were accepted. I gladly contributed. We left after the weekend with good memories, more bigfoot friends and I also got a great handbook that will always accompany me in the field.

I purposely have not singled out any AIBR members in this article because the AIBR is about all the people that are building it. I hope this organization can get more people involved and they can sponsor more workshop/expeditions. I will always try to help wherever I can and be a positive influence. I believe this group will continue to grow and become an important player in bigfoot research. Yes I believe in bigfoot and I am putting my money where my mouth is.
