Part One: Fruits and Berries



The following is the first in a list of possible food sources for Sasquatch in Oregon. I have noted the season in which the fruit ripens. Please note that many fruits will remain on the tree or bush well into winter providing valuable food sources for birds and mammals. Also note that ripening times will vary throughout the state.

Saskatoon (Amelanchier alnifolia) summer
Hairy Manzanita (Arctostaphylos columbiana) summer
Kinnikinnik (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi) summer, though fruit will persist until early winter
Black Hawthorn (Crategus douglasii) summer/fall
Coastal Strawberry (Frageria chiloensis) spring
Woodland Strawberry (Frageria vesca) spring
Wild Strawberry (Frageria virginiana) spring
Oregon Wintergreen (Gaultheria humifusa) fall, though fruit will persist through winter in some areas
Salal berry (Gaultheria shallon) fall, though fruit will persist through winter in some areas
Western Tea-Berry (Gaultheria ovatifolia) fall, though fruit will persist through winter in some areas
Juniper (juniperus communis) summer/fall fruit will persist through winter
Dull Oregon Grape (Mahonia nervosa) summer fruit will persist through early winter
Tall Oregon Grape (Mahonia aquafolium) summer fruit will persist through early winter
Pacific Crab Apple (Malus fusca) fall
Indian-Plum (Oemleria cerasiformus) fall
Choke Cherry (Prunus virginiana) summer
Red Flowering Currant (Ribes sanguineum) summer
Stink Current (Ribes bracteosum) summer
Trailing Black Current (Ribes laxiflorum) summer
Black Gooseberry (Ribes lacustre) summer
Wild Gooseberry (ribes divaricartum) summer
Himalayan Blackberry (rubus pedatus) late summer to early fall
Evergreen Blackberry (rubus laciniatus) late summer to early fall

Alaskan Blueberry (Vaccinium alaskaense) summer
Oval-leaved Blueberry (Vaccinium ovalifolium) summer

Highbush Cranberry aka Mooseberry (Viburnum edule) fall fruit will persist through winter
